Check out our kiwis!
Their flesh is usually green, sweet, and tangy. Enclosed in a brown, fuzzy (hairy) skin, it contains about a hundred tiny, edible black seeds. Kiwis are a source of vitamin C, as well as vitamins A and E, calcium, iron, and folic acid.
There are many varieties of kiwifruit:
- Hayward Kiwi: This is the kiwi we're most familiar with. It's the most widely grown variety of kiwi. Its brown, fuzzy skin encloses green flesh with a fruity flavor that's slightly sweet and just a touch tart.
- Kiwi Green Light: It resembles the Hayward kiwi, although it is generally rounder and smaller than the Hayward.
- Gold Kiwi: Like the green kiwi, this kiwi has brown skin covered with fine hairs. However, its flesh is golden yellow. As for its flavor, it is sweeter than that of the green kiwi and is described as smooth and creamy.
- Red Kiwi: As its name suggests, the flesh of this kiwi is red or pinkish. The skin of the Red Kiwi is also brown, like that of other varieties. Its flesh has a rather tart flavor.
